How long does a Berber rug last?

A rug's durability depends more on how frequently you clean it than on how much usage it sees. A rug's fibers can be torn by accumulated dirt, which over time leads to the rug's degradation. Berber rugs last for several decades, 40 to 60 years, with routine cleaning.

How should my Berber rug be cleaned?

Take your rug outside and shake it out at least once every 3 months for the most straightforward (and traditional) method of cleaning. If this isn't feasible, you can clean the rug once a week using a canister vacuum set to the highest beater bar setting, side to side. This can be just as effective as shaking out a rug, if not more.

If your rug has to be spot cleaned, use warm water and a small amount of detergent. Wool naturally repels liquids at initial contact, so all should be well if you treat it soon with a dry cloth and then follow up with water and soap.

We advise having your rug professionally cleaned if it has been dirty for a while (or if it has been heavily soiled). Find a reputable professional cleaner in your region of the world to assist with revitalizing your Berber rug.

What is the composition of Berber rugs?

100% Moroccan wool, from the Atlas mountains, is used to create our Berber rugs.

Will my Berber rug shed?

Wool fibers are used to create Berber rugs in its whole. All carpets made of natural fibers will shed, especially at first. Not to worry! Your rug is in perfect condition. It's just the way the material and construction are. In order to reduce as much shedding as possible before shipping, we put our rugs through a very thorough washing and drying procedure (sometimes up to 6 times for each rug).

What is possible at home? In the first few weeks, regular vacuuming will greatly speed up the reduction of shedding.
